Mississippi Flyway Birding Festival Field Trip

Intermediate / Advanced Birding Walk at Beaver Creek State Park

Located in Houston County, Minnesota, Beaver Creek Valley State Park is a deeply wooded hardwood forest featuring the clean and clear waters of Beaver Creek. Best birds include nesting Louisiana Waterthrushes, Cerulean Warblers, and other woodland birds. Trail is level, with about 1.5 miles round trip, and includes crossing the shallow creek on a two foot wide bridge.

Directions:

Follow I-90 over the Mississippi River, and take the first exit directly after crossing the river (Exit 275 for La Crescent). It will curve down near the Minnesota Travel Information Center. At the stop sign, take a left over the RR bridge, then immediately another left at next stop sign, which brings you going south on Hwy. 61 under I-90. Continue on Hwy. 61 into La Crescent, and continue south at the only stoplight in La Crescent on Hwy. 16. South out of La Crescent around a big curve stay on Hwy. 16 into Hokah. At the intersection in Hokah, leave Hwy. 16 and take Hwy. 44 to the north edge of Caledonia, about 6.5-7.0 miles. Right turn (west) on County Road 1 will bring you into the Park in 3 miles.

Meeting:    Meet at the Park Office at the entry to the park.
