Mississippi Flyway Birding Festival Field Trip

Paddling the Backwaters by Canoe/Kayak:

Paddlers will explore and learn about the dynamics of the Mississippi River and its backwaters. Likely sightings include migrating waterfowl, shorebirds, raptors (including Bald Eagles and Osprey), Black Terns, American White Pelicans, Yellow-headed Blackbirds and warblers (including Yellow-rumped, American Redstarts and Prothonotary). Expect to paddle several miles.

Day & Time:    Friday morning at 7:00 - 11:00am.

Level of Difficulty:    Moderate
Note: You must bring your own boat, paddles and life jackets. Life jackets are required for all participants.

Directions:

Friday morning canoe/kayak tour. Take Highway 35 to Trempealeau. Turn left at the Lock and Dam sign (a convenience store/gas station will be on the corner). Cross the railroad tracks and continue left past the entry to the lock and dam. About one mile to the Long Lake landing. We will leave from there at 7 a.m.

Meeting:    Participants will gather at Long Lake landing at 6:30am.
